My boyfriend of 3 years just dropped a bomb on me – his name isn’t even real
Guys, I’m still in shock as I type this. I’ve been dating “Jake” for three years, and I just found out his real name is Michael. I feel like I’m living in some weird spy movie or something.
It all started when we were planning a trip to visit his family. He seemed nervous about it, which was weird because he always talked about how close they were. Then, last night, he sat me down and dropped this bombshell on me.
What the actual heck?
Apparently, he changed his name when he moved to our city for a “fresh start.” He claims he was running from some bad decisions in his past and wanted to reinvent himself. But like, who does that? And why keep it going for three whole years?
I’m questioning everything now
I thought I knew this guy inside and out. We’ve talked about marriage, for crying out loud! Now I’m wondering what else he’s been lying about. Does he really have a sister? Is his job even real? Heck, is that even his natural hair color?
Part of me gets it, but…
I get wanting a fresh start, I really do. But this feels like such a massive breach of trust. We’ve shared so much, and all this time, he’s been hiding something so fundamental about himself.
Where do we go from here?
I’m torn between feeling betrayed and trying to understand. Part of me wants to end things right now, but another part wonders if this is something we can work through. He seems genuinely sorry and says he’s been wanting to tell me for a long time.
What would you do in my shoes? Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? I’m really struggling to process all of this, and any advice would be appreciated.
