This 1884 Victorian in New Jersey is a project, but look at that woodwork
I can’t stop staring at this brick Victorian in Salem. It is listed for under $200k, and while it definitely needs some work, the bones are incredible.

Out front
Look at that slate mansard roof with the pattern details and those brackets under the eaves. The wrap-around porch is massive.

It sits on a corner lot with a brick sidewalk out front. You can tell this place was built to show off.

The porch needs some floorboards replaced, but sitting out here with a coffee would be unmatched.

There is an old iron fence running along the side of the property too.

Around back
Around the side, you get a better view of the brickwork and the back porch entry.

There is also a huge backyard with an old wooden barn that has so much character.

The lot is giant for being in town, surrounded by mature trees.

Seriously, that outbuilding could easily become a workshop or a studio.

The entryway
Let us go inside because this is where things get wild. You walk through the double oak doors and find this foyer.

The woodwork is chestnut and oak, and thankfully it has never been painted over. The radiator is still intact too.

Look up. That three-story staircase is an absolute work of art.

First floor rooms
Off the foyer, the main living room has high ceilings and a wooden mantelpiece, though someone went a bit heavy on the red carpet.

Moving into the next room, you can see where the plaster needs work, but those pine floors are waiting to be refinished.

The pocket doors are still here, and look at the wood fretwork detail leaning against the wall.

The formal dining room has a ceiling medallion, and they have saved the original fireplace pieces to be reinstalled.

There is a half bath downstairs too, with wood paneling and a pedestal sink.

The breakfast room and kitchen
Toward the back is the breakfast room, which already has Brazilian cherry floors installed.

This room also gives you access to the back staircase, which is incredibly handy.

The kitchen has been stripped down to a blank slate, ready for whatever layout you want.

The cherry floors run all the way through here, and the electrical upgrades seem to have started.

They have already got a modern fridge in place, so that is one less thing to buy.

The main staircase
Heading up the grand staircase, the landing is surrounded by patterned wallpaper.

There is a beautiful stained-glass window that throws colored light onto the stairs.

Even the etched glass in the door panels has these intricate deer designs.

Second floor
On the second floor, the bedrooms are spacious, featuring bay windows and solid wood floors.

The bathroom on this level is vintage style with a clawfoot tub and white beadboard.

Curiously, one of the bedrooms was turned into a second kitchen by a previous owner.

You could easily convert this back into a bedroom, or keep it as a guest suite setup.

This bedroom has built-in shelves, but clearly needs some plaster repair on the ceiling.

Another bedroom has been painted a deep teal and has plenty of room for storage.

The top level
Let us head up to the third floor. The stairs just keep going, wrapped in that classic wallpaper.

Looking down from the very top really shows off the scale of this staircase.

Up in the turret, this room has some fun angled walls and a plaid wallpaper border.

Another bedroom up here has great natural light and wide-plank floors.

There is a full laundry room on this level, which is incredibly practical so you do not have to carry baskets down three flights of stairs.

Right next to the laundry is an updated full bathroom with a tiled walk-in shower.
