This house in West Virginia is literally three giant cylinders connected together

I was browsing listings in Charleston and stumbled on this absolute trip of a house. It is over 5,500 square feet of pure seventies architectural experimentation, and I need to show you how wild the floor plan is.

Let’s look at the shape

First off, you have to see this from the air to understand what is actually going on here. It is three massive circular pods connected in a line.

From the driveway, it looks like a retro-futuristic wood and stone fortress. The lower level is wrapped in thick stone masonry.

When you get around to the back, you realize the entire structure is suspended over a steep wooded hill. The decks follow the curves of the round rooms.

You can see how the wooden supports hold up the massive outdoor living areas. It looks like a giant treehouse.

Walking in

The front doors are solid wood with heavy geometric carving. They immediately set the tone for the rest of the interior.

The entryway has cool marble floors and sliding glass doors that open right onto the deck. You get a glimpse of the central living room from here.

The layout uses diagonal pine paneling to separate the spaces instead of flat walls. It makes the transition between the round pods feel super organic.

The main living room

This is the central pod, and it is massive. You have a giant stone fireplace on one side and a spiral staircase leading up to a loft.

The ceiling rises up into a cone shape, making the space feel incredibly open. There are windows wrapping around almost the entire perimeter.

The stone fireplace has a deep hearth that doubles as bench seating. It is the perfect spot to sit when it gets cold.

These curved walls of glass look straight out into the trees. You get a view of the city skyline through the branches.

If you climb the spiral stairs, there is a cozy loft space. It has built-in shelving and cabinets tucked under the sloped ceiling.

The kitchen situation

The kitchen keeps things classic with oak cabinets and a black-and-white checkered floor. It has a long setup that works surprisingly well.

There is a built-in desk area on the left and a big window above the sink to watch the backyard.

Just off the kitchen, there is a giant pantry and utility room. Having a deep sink right next to your food storage is incredibly handy.

The retro game room

One of the other pods houses a dedicated entertaining space. It has a built-in bar and plenty of room for a pool table.

The pool table sits right in the center of the wood-paneled room. It feels like a private lounge from 1978.

The wet bar has custom granite countertops and actual taps built into the wall. You can host some serious parties here.

Even the powder room off the game room has those cool diagonal wood walls. The pedestal sink keeps the small space feeling open.

Bedrooms and lofts

The bedrooms in this house are just as interesting as the living spaces. This guest room has its own set of stairs leading to a private loft.

The loft area up here is a cool hideaway. It would make a great reading nook or a play area.

The guest bath features a light pink countertop and a vintage vanity. The green shower adds a nice pop of color.

The main suite

The main bedroom is huge and occupies its own curved section of the house. It has a massive wall of windows with red curtains.

The double vanity has a green countertop and plenty of drawers. There is a walk-in closet right off the dressing area.

There is also a second vanity setup next to the closet door. The layout is incredibly practical for busy mornings.

Downstairs surprise

The lower level has another entire family room. It features exposed wood beams on the ceiling and another spiral staircase.

This lower fireplace is made of the same heavy stone as the one upstairs. It makes this room feel incredibly cozy.

There is another bedroom down here with exposed ceiling beams. The irregular shape of the room makes it feel unique.

The closets down here have classic wood bifold doors with glass inserts. It is a nice touch that you do not see in modern builds.

The lower level bathroom has a great vintage vibe. The blue walls and tan fixtures are a total time capsule.

There is also a massive garage on this level. You have enough space for two cars plus a workshop or home gym.

Outside spaces

Outside the main level, there is a stone patio courtyard. It is tucked between the circular sections of the house.

The upper deck wraps around the pods, giving you a great vantage point over the property. The wood railing follows the curve of the building.
