Whoever designed this South Dakota mansion knew exactly what they were doing
You don’t usually think of South Dakota when you picture hyper-modern mansions, but this Sioux Falls property changes everything. Let’s take a look around because the design choices inside are incredibly bold.
The front of the house
The driveway sweeps around a massive lawn, giving you a full view of the flat-roofed profile. It has a grounded look that feels very private.
Up close, the entryway uses stone paneling and warm wood under the eaves to soften up all that black metal and concrete.
Walking through the front door
The minute you cross the threshold, the house opens up completely. The wide hallways show off wood floors that run through the entire main level.
Off to the side, this floating metal staircase is a total work of art. The steel construction gives it a heavy industrial vibe.
The main living space
The main living room has walls of glass that look straight out to the pool deck. The ceiling heights in here are absolutely massive.
They went with a giant shag rug and chrome coffee tables to anchor the seating area. It feels high-end but comfortable enough to actually hang out in.
The whole main floor is configured so you can see right from the dining table into the living room. It makes the massive footprint feel connected.
About that kitchen
The kitchen is right off the dining area, marked by a massive canopy hanging over the island. The contrast between the dark cabinets and light floors is fantastic.
This island is wrapped in thick marble with heavy grey veining. There is plenty of space for people to pull up a barstool while you cook.
They hid the pantry doors directly inside the wall of cabinetry. You just push on the panel and walk into a hidden prep kitchen.
The home office situation
Working from home would actually be enjoyable in an office like this. The floor-to-ceiling glass looks right out onto the wooded yard.
Heading down to the lower level
The basement is basically a private club. It has its own pool table and a massive bar area with integrated lighting.
The wet bar has custom walnut shelving and a built-in wine fridge. It is nicer than most upscale hotel lounges.
The bedrooms and bathrooms
The primary suite is massive, with its own lounge area built right next to a linear fireplace. You could easily spend a weekend without leaving this room.
The fireplace wall is finished in large grey tiles that go all the way to the ceiling. Huge windows let in a ton of morning light.
The primary bathroom features a double-sided glass shower that you can walk straight through. It has separate shower heads on each side.
The long floating vanity has under-cabinet lighting that makes it look like it is hovering. The wood cabinetry adds some needed warmth to the space.
Another bedroom features this heavy oak canopy bed. The textured wood wall behind it adds a lot of depth to the room.
There is even a private spa room with a wooden sauna. You can walk straight from the sauna into the tile shower next to it.
The massive garage setup
If you have a collection of cars, this garage is a dream. The space is completely finished with epoxy floors and bright LED panels.
They even installed built-in storage cabinets and a full-size refrigerator. It looks more like a showroom than a typical garage.
The backyard pool and private lake
The back of the house is built for entertaining, starting with this massive covered patio. The ceiling heaters mean you can use this space even when the weather turns chilly.
The pool itself is a massive infinity-edge setup that sits raised above the lower lawn. It looks out over the private lake in the back.
They lined up fire bowls along the edge of the pool deck. The concrete tiles give the whole area a structured look.
There is plenty of room for lounge chairs right along the water’s edge. It feels incredibly private thanks to the clever landscaping.
Down by the water, they even brought in sand to create a private beach area. You can sit around a fire pit right on the shore of the lake.
From the air, you can see how the entire house is designed to maximize the lake views. The way the building hugs the land is just incredible.
