This Maine treehouse is built out of old skis and actually has a real bathroom
Maine in the fall is already top-tier, but staying in a house suspended in the canopy takes it to another level. This place is located just outside of Bethel, completely surrounded by woods, boulders, and quiet.

Outside first
The construction is wild. It’s built directly into the surrounding trees using heavy-duty steel brackets, which means the house literally sways naturally with the wind.
Even the supports underneath look like natural, branched tree trunks instead of boring pressure-treated posts.

The lower deck
Down on the ground, they’ve cleared a small lawn with a fire pit and some Adirondack chairs. They even made cornhole boards out of old retro skis.

To get up to the actual house, you walk up wooden stairs that are built right over a massive boulder.

The lower deck features a cozy bar area tucked safely under the upper deck, decorated with string lights and a custom bar sign made of old skis.

Right next to the bar is a hot tub sunk into the deck, meaning you can soak while looking straight into the woods.

Inside the main floor
Walk through the mint-green front door and you’re in a remarkably bright, wood-paneled space. The kitchen takes up one side, and it’s surprisingly well-equipped for a house in the trees.

They managed to fit a deep farmhouse sink, a two-burner cooktop, a retro-style mini-fridge, and even a built-in oven.

Across from the sink, there’s a live-edge bar table facing the window, complete with a little gift basket of Maine treats.

On the other side of the main room is a cozy seating area with two deep blue armchairs and a record player.

The lofts and bathroom
Look up and you’ll see the gorgeous vaulted timber ceiling. There are actually two separate loft spaces up there, each accessed by a different ladder.

Before we go up, the bathroom is hidden behind a wooden door on the main level. It has a proper flush toilet, a corner shower, and a stone bowl sink sitting on a live-edge wood slab.

The first loft is a cozy reading nook with a bright red sofa that can fold out into an extra bed.
The second loft is the main bedroom, reached by a slightly more angled ship’s ladder. It’s tight but incredibly cozy, with windows wrapping around the queen-size bed.

The upper deck
Step out the back door and you’re on the main upper deck. They’ve set up a full outdoor living room out here, complete with a sectional sofa and a giant wooden Jenga set.

Best of all is the massive woven rope hammock slung between two actual trees growing right through the deck floor.

Exploring the local area
If you can pull yourself away from the hammock, there are some great spots nearby. You can grab a massive breakfast bagel sandwich at Gemini Cafe & Bakery in town.

There’s also a trail head right down the road for Buck’s Ledge. It’s a bit of a steep climb, but the view of the lakes and mountains from the top is absolutely worth the sweat.
