This mirror house in Joshua Tree looks like a glitch in the desert
You’ve probably seen photos of this place on Instagram and assumed it was a Photoshop job. Honestly, standing in front of it, your brain still struggles to process what it’s looking at.
It’s a giant, 220-foot-long reflective box that completely vanishes into the rocks.
An actual mirage in the middle of the desert
The exterior is wrapped entirely in tempered mirrored glass that reflects the sky, the dirt, and the massive boulders around it.
It’s parked on a massive 90-acre private plot right next to Joshua Tree National Park.
Depending on the angle you stand at, you might not even see the structure at all.
One end of the building is actually cantilevered, hanging out over the rocks like a futuristic diving board.
Underneath, you can see the massive concrete pillars holding up the weight.
There’s a concrete path that runs along the glass wall, letting you walk right next to your own giant reflection.
The hallway that is mostly swimming pool
Once you step inside, the entire layout is basically one massive, open-concept corridor.
And right in the middle of that hallway is a 100-foot-long heated lap pool.
It runs almost the entire length of the living area, reflecting the desert view right back at you.
If you want to relax, there are sleek white loungers parked right at the edge of the water.
There’s also a cozy seating setup nearby with low-profile black chairs and a plush grey rug.
Further down, you’ll find a massive dining table with geometric black chairs that look like they belong in a sci-fi movie.
On the glass coffee table, there’s even a custom chess set made of brushed metal.
And the owners left a small 3D model of their next container project, the Starburst House.
About that kitchen
The kitchen is surprisingly practical for a house that looks like a spaceship.
It features a massive white island with a marble-patterned wood countertop and a built-in sink.
An induction cooktop is flush-mounted right into the surface.
All the small appliances, like the coffee maker and toaster, sit on a clear glass table nearby.
The rest of the kitchen gear is hidden away in sleek white cabinets, including double ovens and an integrated fridge.
Sleeping on a literal block of glass
The primary bedroom is at the cantilevered end of the house, and it is wild.
The bed frame is made of solid, double-thick glass that weighs over 2,500 pounds.
It makes the mattress look like it’s floating in mid-air right in front of the window.
The massive glass walls slide completely open, turning the bedroom into an open-air overlook.
The bathroom next to it is just as open, featuring a freestanding tub right in the middle of the room.
The tub has simple, clean lines with minimalist chrome fixtures.
Opposite the tub, two modern square sinks float on the wall beneath a giant mirror.
That mirror actually hides a touch-to-open medicine cabinet.
And the shower is a walk-in stainless steel box that feels incredibly high-end.
The guest suites
If you’re not in the main suite, the other bedrooms are still pretty incredible.
The junior primary bedroom has a built-in bed platform made of the same marble as the bathroom.
It features floor-to-ceiling glass walls that give you a front-row view of the giant boulders outside.
Its bathroom has a similar vibe, with a floating white vanity and a stainless steel shower.
The third bedroom has a slightly different layout but keeps the exposed steel frame look.
It features a simple wooden closet organizer and a large round vanity mirror.
The attached bathroom features a glass-enclosed shower stall with a stone base.
There’s also a convenient half-bath for guests with a clean, compact vanity.
The nuts and bolts of a 220-foot mirror
Building something like this in the harsh desert heat takes some serious engineering.
The core of the structure is a heavy-duty steel frame reinforced with W-shaped trusses.
You can actually see these steel supports running along the lower half of the glass walls inside.
To keep the house off-grid and efficient, the flat roof is lined with a massive array of solar panels.
The mirrored glass also helps deflect the intense sun, keeping the inside cool.
At night, the whole place transforms when the LED lighting strips turn on.
The entire exterior glows in neon purple and blue, looking like a neon bar dropped into the desert.
A few weirdly cool extras
To top it all off, the house comes with some quirky custom accessories.
And yes, there’s even a completely clear acrylic electric guitar that once belonged to Joe Perry of Aerosmith.
