Someone actually built a modern house inside an Ohio cave

It sounds crazy, but this place in Hocking Hills is built directly into a massive recess cave. You get a fully functional home underneath tons of solid sandstone.

The outside setup

The front patio runs right along the cliff face. They put in a fire pit and even a hot tub where you can soak under the rock ledge.

A living room with a rock ceiling

When you walk inside, the first thing you notice is the ceiling. It is just the raw underside of the cave.

They went with a dark academia style to fit the cave mood. The main living space has leather couches and a wood stove in the corner.

The massive bookcase has built-in lighting and Gothic arches. There is even a TV hidden in the middle that looks like a framed painting.

Where you eat

Right next to the kitchen is the dining area. The dining chairs have custom backs designed to match the Gothic arches found throughout the house.

The entire glass front can slide open. This connects the dining room straight to the outdoor patio.

Billiards and laundry

Towards the back, there is a pool table sitting right in front of a layered stone wall. They also hid the laundry behind arched closet doors.

The velvet bedroom

The other bedroom is decorated in deep maroon. Instead of wallpaper, they covered the main wall in actual velvet fabric.

This room also has two bunk beds that fold flat into the wall to save space.

Exploring the property

If you hike up the trail behind the house, you get a great view from the top of the cliff. There are even other natural caves scattered across the land.
