World-renowned artist Ruth Faerber’s Balmoral Beach apartment hits the market for $9million – and its front yard is a formal hedge garden with a fountain facing the sand
Ruth Faerber, a world-renowned artist, kept making art in this Balmoral Beach apartment until well past 100. It's now listed with a $9 million guide. Wait till you see what's out the front door.
Out front
4/37 The Esplanade, Mosman. It's one of only six apartments in the block, dead centre of the strip and directly across from the beach.

Glass pergola, so the outdoor sofas still get used when it rains.

Yes, a fountain. Across the road from the beach.

That's a Moreton Bay fig out front. Balmoral's full of them.

People walking the Esplanade get a look at your fountain, you get a look at them. Seems fair.

The living room
It faces east, so the morning sun comes in straight off the water. Reportedly she got up to her studio via a ladder in the broom cupboard. The video doesn't show it, which feels like a crime.

Herringbone parquet the whole way through. Whoever looks after these floors deserves a raise.

Kitchen

Staged, obviously. Nobody's olive oil is that organised.

Wok burner built into the cooktop. Actually useful.

A little breakfast table too, for when the dining table feels like too much commitment on a Tuesday.

From above
Balmoral's the calm harbour beach, not the surf one. Hence all the sailboats.

Your walk to the letterbox, basically.

Balmoral baths at sunset.

After dark

Lights on, fountain glowing. I'd sit out there every night and never get a thing done.

Bedrooms and baths

Marble floor to ceiling, two basins, a proper deep bath. Fine, I'd use it.

The bedrooms open onto a private courtyard out the back. Beach on one side, little jungle on the other.

Third bedroom, dark headboard, glass doors straight onto the greenery.

Front row on the whole crescent, all the way round to Rocky Point. That's the $9 million, really.

Somewhere in there is a broom cupboard with a ladder up to an artist's studio. I'd pay the inspection fee just to climb it.
