This geodesic dome in Minnesota is basically its own private peninsula
I was scrolling through listings in northern Minnesota and found this weird dome house that has almost four acres of land completely to itself. It is sitting on a point of land with water on three sides, and the vibe is incredibly peaceful.
Starting with the land
To get a sense of just how private this place is, you have to look at it from the air first. Here is the property line showing how much shoreline you actually get.
There are no close neighbors in sight, just trees and water. It looks like a place where you can genuinely disconnect.
The house is sitting right in the middle of all those pines. It is hard to find this much untouched shoreline anymore.
The lake itself is quiet and mostly undeveloped, which means you do not have to worry about loud jet skis waking you up. It is just endless woods.
The walk up
When you arrive, you drive down this dirt path covered in pine needles. It feels like you are heading deep into a state park.
The trail winds through the woods, making the approach feel like a real escape. You can smell the pine sap in the air.
Eventually, the trees clear a bit and you get your first look at the cabin. It is a brown dome that blends right into the forest.
The exterior is covered in wood shingles, giving it a very organic look. A large deck wraps around the entire front of the structure.
There are a few stairs leading up to the deck, which sits high off the ground. The scale of the place is surprisingly big once you stand next to it.
The entryway
The front door opens into a practical mudroom with high ceilings. There is plenty of closet space here to drop your heavy coats and boots.
The living room
Once you walk through the entry, the ceiling completely opens up. The main wall is made of these triangular windows that frame the forest.
The spiral staircase in the corner leads up to a loft bedroom, and the whole space feels incredibly open. It is a really cool geometric layout.
There is a wood-burning stove set against a brick wall to keep the place warm during those cold winters. It is positioned perfectly right in the center of the living room.
Where you eat
Just off the living area is a small dining nook with wood-paneled walls. It is a cozy spot for a morning coffee before heading out to the lake.
The kitchen is right behind the dining area, utilizing a corner layout. It has wood cabinets and clean white appliances.
A wide pass-through window over the sink let you chat with people in the living room while you wash dishes. It keeps the kitchen from feeling isolated.
Downstairs bed and bath
The main floor bedroom has those same faceted dome walls, which make the room feel like a wooden tent. A simple window looks out into the trees.
There is a decent closet with wooden doors on the opposite wall. It has a very straightforward, cabin-like feel.
The main floor bathroom is right nearby, complete with a tub and shower. The wood trim around the mirror matches the rest of the cabin.
Going upstairs
To get to the second bedroom, you climb the spiral staircase. Looking down from the stairs gives you a great perspective on the living room below.
The loft bedroom sits directly under the peak of the dome. It has space for a bed and a small desk area overlooking the windows.
A small closet structure is built right into the loft, offering some privacy from the stairs. The warm brown paint on the walls makes it feel like its own little suite.
From the edge of the loft, you can look straight out through the top of the triangular windows. The view of the forest from up here is fantastic.
The loft also has its own private bathroom, which is extremely convenient. It features a simple stand-up shower and matching wood cabinets.
The porch situation
One of the best spots in the house is this massive screened porch. It is built right against the side of the shingled dome wall, which looks incredibly cool.
You can sit out here in the evening without worrying about the mosquitoes. The texture of the shingles on the interior wall is a great detail.
If you want some sun, you can head out onto the open deck. There is plenty of space for a row of Adirondack chairs.
The deck wraps around the front of the dome, following its curved shape. It gives you multiple angles to sit and look at the lake.
Out on the land
There is also a small storage shed on the property. It is perfect for keeping your lawn mower, tools, or lake gear locked up.
A winding path leads from the house down through the trees to the water. The pine needles keep the trail soft underfoot.
At the edge of the water, there is a clearing with a couple of metal chairs. This is the spot where you want to build a campfire at night.
The shoreline is incredibly peaceful, with calm water reflecting the clouds. You can launch a kayak or canoe right from here.
The shoreline is shallow and filled with lily pads along the edge. It feels like a completely wild piece of nature.
You have over 1,400 feet of this private shoreline to explore. The water is clear and surrounded by forest.
The woods on the peninsula are thick with mature pines and hardwoods. It feels like you have your own private wilderness.
With this much land and water, you could easily spend all summer out here and never get bored. It is a truly unique setup for anyone who loves the outdoors.
