I’m completely obsessed with the wood-paneled den in this 1900 Georgia cottage

If you love old houses with actual personality, this c. 1900 place in Bainbridge, Georgia, is a trip. For under three hundred thousand, you get a ton of space and some design choices that are delightfully bold.

The approach

You walk up under these big pines that keep the front yard shaded. The front porch has columns that make it feel like a traditional Southern cottage.

It sits on nearly half an acre, so you actually have some space.

First impressions

Past the front door, the ceiling height hits you first. The floors are heart pine, and the original trim is still intact.

There’s a lot of room here for a proper furniture layout. The light just pours in through those front windows.

The painted floor

Through the French doors is this room with a painted checkerboard floor. It’s set up as a playroom right now, and it gets great light.

It’s a great transition space. You can shut the French doors if you need a quiet spot.

A formal dining setup

Next up is the dining room, and they went all-in on color here. That deep red paint really sets off the wainscoting.

There’s plenty of room for a huge table, which is exactly what a house of this era needs.

The quiet spots

Off the dining area is this cozy breakfast nook. The built-in cabinet is perfect for showing off dishes.

Then there’s another dedicated study. This wall setup shows just how much hanging space you have.

The kitchen

The kitchen keeps the checkerboard theme going. They’ve updated it with white cabinets and subway tile, but kept the red walls.

It’s a galley layout, but it feels wide enough that you wouldn’t bump into anyone while making coffee.

They tucked the fridge into its own alcove with some storage closets nearby.

The Ponderosa pine den

Okay, this is my favorite spot. This den is entirely wrapped in pine paneling and ceiling beams.

It feels like a cozy cabin hidden away inside a classic cottage.

There’s a brick fireplace in here too. It’s the best spot to hang out on a rainy Sunday.

The bedrooms

The first bedroom is massive. It’s got yellow walls, high ceilings, and another fireplace mantel.

Even with a large bed, the room doesn’t feel crowded at all.

The second bedroom is just as big, currently holding a four-poster bed and another fireplace.

The scale of these old rooms is hard to find in newer builds.

Vintage bathrooms

The bathrooms have a lot of vintage character. This one has pink tile and floral wallpaper.

The other bathroom goes for a green tile theme with built-in cabinet storage.

Outside

Out back, you get a screened porch with a blue ceiling. It’s got plenty of room for wicker chairs.

It’s the perfect spot to sit outside without dealing with bugs.

They even tucked the laundry machines out here in a closet, which is a clever way to save space.

It’s surrounded by tall trees that give you plenty of shade.

There’s also a side entry near the brick chimney, perfect for coming in after working in the yard.
