This 1898 Newport stone castle has a pink ping pong table in the foyer and I am obsessed
I am convinced whoever lived here had the most fun. This Newport estate is not some stuffy historic mansion; it is packed with some of the most playful design choices on the coast.
The castle on the coast
From the outside, the main house looks like a fortress dropped right onto the Rhode Island shoreline.
The driveway winds up under a canopy of trees right to a stone archway.
Around the side, a pergola dripping with wisteria overlooks the lawn.
The entryway
You open the front door and you are immediately hit with yellow walls and a pink ping pong table right in the middle of the hall.
Looking down from the landing, you get a sense of how playful this layout is.
Right off the play area is a hearth setup where you can lounge with a view of the water.
The sitting areas
The house has multiple sitting areas, and they all lean into bright colors instead of safe neutrals.
The living room is loaded with natural light from a wall of glass doors and features pink sofas.
Those doors lead straight out to a deck where you can sit and watch the waves.
If it is too windy outside, there is a dining room with wrap-around glass to keep the wind out.
Even the transitional hallway spaces have deep sofas and gold mirrors.
About that kitchen
This kitchen is going to divide people, but I love it. They paired green cabinets with red countertops and it is gloriously retro.
The red counters wrap all the way around to a farm sink under a big window.
It is a massive space with a commercial stove and plenty of room to prep.
The bedrooms
Up on the second floor, the primary bedroom is painted a soft pink with a black bed.
Another guest room goes heavy on the stripes, complete with a striped headboard and matching curtains.
Every bedroom upstairs seems to have its own personality and a view of the water.
This twin room is painted a warm peach color that feels incredibly cozy.
It has a doorway that leads straight into a blue bathroom with double sinks.
The bathroom window frames the cove like a painting.
Further up, the tower bedrooms feature paneled walls and deep arched windows.
The wood paneling keeps the tower rooms from feeling dark.
Even the guest room gets a dose of floral patterns and double doors to the outside.
The castle battlements
Those double doors lead out onto the stone battlements where you can lay on a lounge chair.
Down at the water’s edge, you have a dock tucked safely into the cove for your boat.
The entire property sits on its own peninsula, giving you water views in almost every direction.
